Cleaning

WOOD

A modern woodstove, even with a built-in Airwash system, will darken up over time during operation. This is especially true on a low, slow burn, or when the wood supply is not thoroughly dry. Imperial (previously Kel Kem) wood burning Glass Cleaner is specifically designed to cut through the complex tar deposits that condense out on the glass.

Even if your stove is burning clean for a number of days, it is still important to clean the glass every couple of days. This is to remove the fine ash deposit that will also accumulate on the glass over time. If this fine white film is left on, it will slowly etch into the glass, making it permanently cloudy.


 Note: minimal etching is normal after a long period of time.

Gas
Gas fireplaces with a sealed glass front require cleaning every 3-6 months depending on use. It is normal for a light haze to build up on the inside of the glass over a period of time. This can be easily cleaned using “Imperial Kel Kem Gas Fireplace Glass Cleaner.”

* Note: do not use Windex or other household cleaners on ceramic fireplace glass.

Chimney
Any wood burning chimney is required to be cleaned at least once a year, more often if the woodstove or fireplace is used regularly. Chimney sweeps are readily available and charge in the neighborhood of $125 per cleaning. At Vaglio, we carry products for chimney maintenance should you want to clean your own.
